True Blood Star, Ryan Kwanten Loves His Gay Fans

In an interview with US-based gay and lesbian magazine The Advocate, Kwanten 33, spoke highly of his gay following: “They've always been very staunch supporters of me,” he said.

“The great thing is that it's a loyal fan base – they'll stick with you through thick and thin, and I like that. You can’t buy that kind of loyalty.”

Kwanten, who first reached notoriety playing Vinnie Patterson in Australian soap opera Home and Away, went on to reveal that he has a close connection with the gay community in that his brother, Lloyd, is openly gay.

The actor steeped his brother in praise for having the courage to come out. “He's a doctor, so he got every ounce of intelligence in the family,” he said. “He was probably about 18 when he came out, and I can wholeheartedly tell you that from the day that he did, he was a changed man for the better. The sheer beauty of who he is really came through.”

With regard to his current star-turn in vampire-drama True Blood, Kwanten admitted that he’d have no qualms about his character Jason Stackhouse exploring his sexuality. “I'm sure [True Blood creator] Alan Ball is concocting some road to take Jason down that he's never been down before,” he joked.
